Organic: Where to Buy

One of the biggest issues when it comes to buying organic, all natural foods is affordability. A few days ago I was at Shoprite. The cashier commented on all of the fresh produce and my husband mentioned that I was a vegetarian. She took that and ran with it, and a discussion on food ensued. She said that she couldn't afford to eat the organic fruits and veggies because they were too expensive. I was shocked, absolutely shocked. In my cart I had the following:

4lbs Organic Oranges $4.49
Organic Gala Apples $1.60/lb
Organic Pears $1.49/lb
5lbs Organic Russet Potatoes $3.99
Organic Avocado $1.50/piece

Shocked at the ridiculously low prices on the organic fruit, I checked out the prices of the regular, pesticide covered fruit.

4lbs Oranges $3.99
Gala Apples $1.99/lb
Pears $1.49/lb
Avocado $1.50/piece

While I did not check the price of the regular potatoes, my guess is that it was probably pretty close to the organic price.

So please, don't fall for the old "it's too expensive!" line. Do your research and see that more likely than not, you're going to be paying just a few cents per pound or item on organic.

And, pst... Redner's every day low price on organic apples is somewhere around $1.50/lb :) That's cheaper than half the other regular apples when they aren't on sale!
