Organic: Where to Buy

One of the biggest issues when it comes to buying organic, all natural foods is affordability. A few days ago I was at Shoprite. The cashier commented on all of the fresh produce and my husband mentioned that I was a vegetarian. She took that and ran with it, and a discussion on food ensued. She said that she couldn't afford to eat the organic fruits and veggies because they were too expensive. I was shocked, absolutely shocked. In my cart I had the following:

4lbs Organic Oranges $4.49
Organic Gala Apples $1.60/lb
Organic Pears $1.49/lb
5lbs Organic Russet Potatoes $3.99
Organic Avocado $1.50/piece

Shocked at the ridiculously low prices on the organic fruit, I checked out the prices of the regular, pesticide covered fruit.

4lbs Oranges $3.99
Gala Apples $1.99/lb
Pears $1.49/lb
Avocado $1.50/piece

While I did not check the price of the regular potatoes, my guess is that it was probably pretty close to the organic price.

So please, don't fall for the old "it's too expensive!" line. Do your research and see that more likely than not, you're going to be paying just a few cents per pound or item on organic.

And, pst... Redner's every day low price on organic apples is somewhere around $1.50/lb :) That's cheaper than half the other regular apples when they aren't on sale!

Welcome

Today we are in a battle. We are fighting against big business and corporations that want one thing: profit. And how do food companies turn a profit? They fill our "food" with chemicals, pesticides, and additives in order to grow the most, stretch what they have, and make the most money off of the least amount of raw materials.

So what does this mean for you? It means that you are involved in one of the biggest and most destructive experiments known to man. We're guinee pigs, testing these new psuedo foods like lab rats. We've got years of "research" under our belts by now. Look at the statistics. In the past fifty years obesity, heart disease, ADD, ADHD, autism, cancer, and so much more are on the rise. Our children bear the brunt of these illnesses because we're feeding into the lies of convenience and chemical enhancement of our food.

The breakdown is this. Dyes are bad. Chemicals (for the most part) are bad. Anything that doesn't naturally occur in nature is bad. The only preservative that is not bad is freezing. We're going to walk through this together, and every day will be a new adventure for us. I don't know it all, but I plan on researching and finding out more. If you live in my area, I'm going to fill you in on who has the organics that you want and where the best prices are. I'm going to show you that this is affordable and this is necessary.

Thanks for joining me on this journey :)
